Two Great Leaders in Senior Living Join Forces to Create Heritage Potomac

Wormald: A Potomac home town story

Wormald was founded in Potomac in 1964 about a half-mile from the site of Heritage Potomac. While growing up, the Wormald brothers and their children went to school and camp at the property. They love the land and its story as well as their hometown of Potomac.

Wormald is a recognized leader in serving the needs of senior adults in the 62 to 90+ year old bracket. For decades Wormald has refined product for seniors and built over a thousand homes which feature senior-friendly, aging-in-place designs.

Recently, Wormald was featured in the AIA Design For Aging Review as an innovator in the field of senior living for it’s “virtual CCRC” concept at Worman’s Mill in Frederick, Maryland where 171 senior age-restricted luxury elevator apartments and an 79-unit assisted living facility, all developed and built by Wormald, serve the needs of an aging Worman’s Mill population, allowing residents to continue to live in the heart of the community they love. This “whole life community” concept where residents of all ages can live together in an integrated fashion and where home types have been created to address each stage of the aging process all in one place has brought visitors to Wormald from Japan, South Africa, and other places around the globe who want to study how to provide dignity to seniors in their retirement years by providing living options which are more thoughtful and reflective of how seniors really want to live.

Founder and President, Kelly Cook Andress began her career in senior housing in 1989 at Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. where she was Vice President for Development and Finance. She helped define the company that came to define the industry. She has been closely involved in the development of more than 20 communities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic; developing, acquiring and operating senior communities at all levels of independence and care. Seeing the evolution in senior housing move towards cookie-cutter, Wall Street-driven corporations, Kelly was inspired to forge a new definition of senior living; rooted in a dedication to building communities with the flexibility to adjust around residents as their desires and needs change.
